The History of Sanctity Sanctity was formed in March 2004 by a number of legally married couples who had survived the traumas caused by one person's transition from male to female or vice versa. We believe that the fact that one partner is transsexual should not be a bar to these perfectly legal marriages continuing. It is unknown just how many such marriages exist in the UK, but estimates vary around the 100 to 150 mark. Research by Sanctity is shows that these marriages are some of the strongest in the country and average in excess of 20 years duration, many over 30 years. We wonder what purpose has be served by insisting that these couples annul their marriages against their will. Sanctity was formed to campaign that these marriages should be allowed to continue after a partner has transitioned. We decided early on that we should be a non-political group, also that we should be both multi-faith and non-faith, and also non-profit-making. |
